So let us start off with “I am not nor do I claim to be an expert on prepping”. Let’s be honest there is and always will be someone out there that is better and more experienced then we are. There will always be that one person who disagrees with anything and everything that others do. We are always open to new ideas and ways of thinking. So feel free to send us any input you may have through our contact page. With that being said let us say this site is for the beginning prepper. I have found over the years how hard it is to get good solid Information on things such as food storage and survival techniques. Such simple things as the self-life of canned goods. Everyone has a differing opinion. Would it surprise you to know. If you dig deep enough in to the manufactures web site you can find these answers. This is from Hormel’s Official site

Hormel: “For maximum flavor and freshness, we recommend use by the “Best By” date printed on our can. However, the shelf life of the product is indefinite as long as the seal remains intact, unbroken and securely attached to a can that has been well maintained. It is suggested that all canned products be stored in a cool and dry environment to keep the flavor adequately preserved. Our food is processed with a vacuum seal and is cooked at a high temperature which makes it a shelf stable item.”

“Hormel”

USDA: “Most shelf-stable foods are safe indefinitely. In fact, canned goods will last for years, as long as the can itself is in good condition (no rust, dents, or swelling). Packaged foods (cereal, pasta, cookies) will be safe past the ‘best by’ date, although they may eventually become stale or develop an off flavor. You’ll know when you open the package if the food has lost quality. Many dates on foods refer to quality, not safety. See FSIS’ Shelf-Stable Food Safety fact sheet for more information.”

We will cover things like this on our page “Food Storage Basics” . I will give you a link to their website page so you can find it easily yourself. It is always important to take any information you gather from this site or any other site and verify it yourself. In fact your life may someday depend on it.

We will cover inexpensive ways of preserving food, water storage, survival Techniques and many other things. Many people believe prepping is expensive, And that you have to buy those expensive survival foods you see on TV. That is just not true. A person can start with just a few dollars a week, a small Dehydrator and an inexpensive vacuum sealer. Yes freeze dried food may last 25-30 years but for a prepper on a budget dehydrated foods can be done cheaply at home and last up to 15 years. So we hope you enjoy and let us help you on your journey to becoming a prepper..
